The answer to your problem.
Tile
How It Works
By attaching the tile to an item (like your keys, wallet, bike, etc), you are essentially tethering both the item and the tile to your phone.
The Tile can cast a signal and make a noise when you are within a 100 foot radius of the item. Also, if you use the Tile app, then the Tile's range is practically limitless. It is good to retrace your footsteps if you do not know where you had the item last, so your phone automatically remembers the last place it saw the tile.
"I'm getting something here.
When you begin searching for a lost item, your phone tracks the signal strength of your Tile. As you get closer, the app's tracking circle fills in, giving you a clear indication of your progress."

The Tile app supports up to 8 devices, so do not worry about choosing only one item. You can get multiple tiles and they all sync with one account.
Pretty soon the developers of Tile will allow you to share access of your Tile with your friends, family, and coworkers so you can find the things you share together (TV remote or office laptops).
