Register that Drone!

Drone technology has really taken off within the last year (pun intended). People are using them for all sorts of things, but not everyone is playing by the rules.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has banned the use of drones within 5 miles of an airport and also at heights above 400 feet. These drones can interfere with air traffic and are dangerous to aircraft. Unfortunately not everyone is following these regulations and there has been a surge of drones interfering with air traffic, as well as causing problems in other areas.

Due to new federal regulation, people are now going to have to register their drones in a national registry. For right now they are saying that people will not have to put trackers or transponders on the drones and they are still working out the details about how exactly to enforce it because they also do not want to use "geofencing."

The main problem lies less in the identification of the drones and more so in tracing the drone back to its owner.

Registration of the devices would occur online and would include some kinds of competency test about the flying of drones. Those who do not comply to these regulations will be penalized in some way, although at this point they are not entirely sure how.

Many people have concerns about what this will mean for privacy, but it seems as though this is the best course of action in order to keep everyone safe.
