Tips and Tricks to Keep Yourself connected to Harding Internet
Many times people find themselves in a situation where they cannot connect to the internet at Harding or find themselves quarantined, when there are some easy steps that can keep you from needing to make a trip to our help desk, and make your internet run more reliably.
One of the most common symptoms that we see at the help desk are anti-viruses that need to be installed or updated. All computers at Harding are required to have some form of anti-virus installed on them, and kept up to date! This helps not only you staying virus free, but also the other people on campus as well.
Some free anti-viruses we recommend are Windows Defender, AVG, and Avast!
Windows Defender comes with all computers that are Windows 8 or later, and an alternative can be installed on Windows 7 called Microsoft Security Essentials.
AVG and Avast! are both free anti-viruses that are available as alternatives to windows defender for windows, and are also available as antiviruses for Macs.
Once you have these or other anti-viruses installed, all you have to do is make sure to hit yes when it asks to update, and you should have no problems getting onto Harding internet.
Another common issue that we see at the help desk is computers that aren't set to automatically update. To keep your computer running smoothly and safely it is essential that you keep your operating system up to date. The creators of your operating system are constantly fixing software bugs, updating drivers for new devices, and making improvements on the software that you use everyday. So be sure not to ignore the notifications on the side of your computer saying that there are new updates available to install!
