Let's (Snap)chat About Geofilters
Snapchat is a trend that will not be dying anytime soon, so I say if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Although we all have that one (or maybe seven) friend(s) who Snap(s) way too much and always has a 1 hour long Snap story, Snapchat can still be enjoyable, and the company keeps on adding new features to show off where you are and what you are up to. The most recent features are Group Chat and Quick Chat. Chat with up to 16 friends in one message room, or if you want to just talk to one of them, just tap on their name so you don't have to bother the whole group. However, one of the more interesting and fun features has been around for much longer. Geofilters have become incredibly popular for big cities, parks, and public areas and even private events such as weddings and parties use them to add a little extra something for their guests to enjoy.
The geofilters started out by being designed by the Snapchat team themselves, but not long after they were introduced the company started allowing their users to join them in creating what is now one of the most popular features in the app. Snapchat is doing a great job of building a community of artists to submit their own designs for public use. But it isn't just limited to artists, Snapchat also offers "On Demand" geofilters that businesses or individuals can customize and purchase in order to use for their events. They aren't very expensive either (depending on your definition of "expensive"). When creating one for reference I made the boundaries enclose Harding's campus and it only cost $35.91 (although it might cost more or less depending on the design and location). So the next time you have a party or some other type of event, try creating a geofilter and let your friends know so you all can Snap to your heart's content using your very own creation as a filter!
