DormNet - More Than Tech
This past week has been my first experience working at DormNet - long hours and lots of tech problems. We've helped many of you out there with your technology, connecting to WiFi, speeding up slow computers, setting up printers, TVs, Xboxs, Wiis, Rokus, you name it. We've been working in the dorms, coming right to you, and you've been coming to us, to our help desk. I've met a lot of you, and a lot of people who will probably never even know this blog exists, and I've noticed something. There's a lot more to this job than fixing tech.
Sure, a huge part of being a student technician is making sure your tech works, but our primary focus is to make sure that you, our client, and most likely fellow student, are satisfied and your needs are taken care of. More often than not, that requires more than our technical skills. It takes a genuine interest in you as a person, and our expression of that interest. We can empathize with you when your computer is acting up and you have that paper to write. We can share college experiences with each other, talk about classes, majors, interests, church and so on. We aren't just in the tech business, we're in the people business.
You may not expect these types of interactions with us as we work, but it is what we hope to supply you with. We don't want you to leave with only a fixed computer, we want you to go with your spirits lifted and your day brightened. We want you to know that you are valued. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. If going to DormNet was uncomfortable, awkward, or impersonal, you wouldn't want to come, and no one would be happy. It's important for you to know that we care for our clients, wish the best for them, and will do everything we can to make the best happen.
So if you can't connect to the WiFi, or your computer is running slow, or you have no clue how to set up your printer, give us a call at 501-279-4545 or stop on by in the Admin, room 205. No matter how big or small your problem is, we'll make sure you're taken care of.
