Gaming on Linux?

Steam Play

     Since Linux's birth, gaming has not been its focus. And if anyone was to say a year ago that gaming on Linux would be an okay experience, I'd say they were crazy.  In the past, if a game was not made to run on Linux natively, you would have to use software such as WINE to run windows games. But a recent development by Valve, the company who owns the Steam, they've implemented proton. Proton allows a user to run window games like WINE but in a very user-friendly way.  With WINE one would have a painful process to get each game to run smoothly. Valve does that for the user.  The Proton software is in BETA so for what it is, its an amazing feat in Linux gaming. 
Steam play is what Valve calls their implementation of Proton. To set it up on your Linux system, you'll want to install steam from their website here. Once you've installed the application and logged into your account, you'll want to go to settings and enable "Steam Beta Update." Once Steam has updated to the Beta branch as seen in this picture.  

You'll then go back to settings and make sure Steam Play is installed and you have it set to the newest version. There is also a certain white list of games that are said to run very well but many games haven't been tested or are yet fully supported. But you're able to test those games for yourself. If you go to the Steam Play settings on Steam, if you make sure the "Enable Steam Play for all titles," proton will attempt to run any windows game to the best of its ability. And for being a BETA, Steam Play has been very impressive.
