The update seems to be mostly a rebranding of the OS by Google to give it a more modern and fresher feel and look. But this doesn't come without some controversy. The new gesture navigation is almost identical to IOS. Especially the small bar at the bottom that allows you swipe up and cycle through apps. This replaces the old button system we are so used to. You can still switch back to the old system in the settings, but it seems Androids focus is on the new gesture system for navigation.

Another notable feature is the dark theme. They had some dark theme features but dark theme is now an official part of android and is fully supported in other apps. This is a big plus for those who have an OLED screen in their phone. OLED displays light up each individual pixel while most displays rely on a back light to light up the pixels. This will help those with an OLED display to save battery while in dark mode.

Live caption is another amazing feature found in the new update. Sadly it isn't working at the moment but it would allow any video that is played locally on your phone to be captioned.

Family link is also a IOS looking feature, iphones allow users to share their location with friends and family and android now has a built in feature to do the same. Parents can use these tools found in family link to set digital ground rules like daily screen time limits, device bedtime, time limits on specific apps, and more. They can also review the apps children install on their devices, as well as their usage.
