Two tools to block distractions

As we approach the end of the semester, it's a bit more important now to be focused on working, and also really apparent that we're easily distracted.  Here are two tools that might help you stay a bit more focused until the end.

1.  myNoise.net

This is a free online noise generator with customizable settings.  This can be nice if you want to block out noise without getting distracted by listening to music, or, I like to play it at the same time as my music to block things out even better.  It has white noise, rain, wind chimes, nature sounds, and many other soundscapes.  There is the option to pay and get more soundscapes, but I've never felt the need; there are plenty for free.

2.  Cold Turkey Blocker

Blocking programs (premium feature)
Cold turkey is a tool that allows your computer to keep you from accessing distractions. In the free version, you can import a default list of the sites you'd like to block, and when you try to access it during the blocking time, you'll be met with an inspirational quote from Cold Turkey instead.  In the upgraded version, you can also block certain programs on your computer, and when a blocked program is opened, Cold Turkey will close it immediately and notify you that it closed the program.  The upgraded version will also compile data to show you where you spend your time, and allow you to set a schedule for blocking. So, for example, if you know you should be working every day from 2-4pm, you can tell it to start at 2pm and end at 4pm automatically.

I don't usually buy the upgraded version of software, but for Cold Turkey I did, and it's been a big help.
