Can Your Phone Replace Your Laptop?

Can your phone replace your laptop?
When I ask that question you might immediately think, my phone is capable of doing many of my day to day computer tasks. One can email, surf the web, and watch various media. For most people, that is the bulk of what they do on their laptop. But your phone is small and doesn't have a mouse and keyboard. It's just not as friendly to use all the time. But what if I told you there was a solution.

If you own a Samsung phone, they come with a feature called Samsung Dex. This feature allows you to connect your USB-C port to an hub where you can connect an external monitor, keyboard, mouse, and potentially any other USB device.

This allows you to keep all of your work on one very portable location. This can't replace your regular desktop, or a powerful laptop. But it can make it easier to take your work with you. Also if you get a yourself a "lapdock" it can make this set up even more portable. A lapdock is a device is a lot like a laptop except it doesn't include the actual "computer" part of the laptop. It's a battery, screen, keyboard, mouse, and usb hub all in one that you connect your phone to to make use of  Samsung Dex. Many companies make lapdocks and they're pretty affordable compared to a laptop. So instead of dumping over $1000 on a phone and a laptop, a person could just purchase a very nice phone and a lapdock and still be able to do many of the things they'd do with a chromebook or laptop.

Also it's worth noting that not just Samsung phones support this feature. Many android phones running android 10 might be able to do this as well. I'd recommend doing some research on your phone first before buying a lapdock. Also, for us iPhone users, there is hope for us. The top photo is actually an Apple patent. So someday in the future, we might be able to dump our hard earned money onto our expensive version of a lapdock for our iPhones.
