A Closer Look at the Surface Book
Yesterday, one of our fellow DormNet agents, Andrew Cause, posted a blog about the recent Microsoft Windows 10 event that unveiled all of their up and coming devices. All of the hardware they featured in the event was modern, ingenious, and innovative. However, the main attraction of the event was the Microsoft Surface Book. Though Andrew gave a general overview of the device, I wanted to zoom in a little further to get a closer look at the Surface Book.
Take a look at Andrew's blog to get a general overview of ALL the devices featured at the event!
Surface Book
"Ultra-thin, meticulously crafted, with incredible screen resolution. This is the ultimate laptop."
Microsoft believes this is an "ultimate laptop" because of its "ultimate versatility" and its "ultimate performance." They have attempted to redefine the laptop. Though it has its cons like most new technology, I would argue that Microsoft has created the perfect convertible. Many laptop/tablets or "convertibles" are either purely a tablet with a detachable keyboard or more of a laptop that acts as a clunky tablet. The Surface Book is perfect fusion between a tablet and laptop, therefore making this the best convertible yet.
Ultimate Versatility
One of the major key features of the Surface Book is its ability to adapt to your work setting. The Surface Book can transform into three different configurations to provide you with multiple working experiences.
This is the birth of the first full laptop in the Surface family. The beautiful monitor is accompanied by a full-sized, backlit keyboard for natural typing. The Surface Book also has extremely fast components under the hood allowing it to be "powerful."
The glorious 13.5" PixelSense display can detach from the keyboard to provide you with a nice large tablet. Feel free to also use the Surface Pen for a clipboard-like experience. This feature is perfect for applications like OneNote.
You can also fully detach the screen, spin it around, then reattach it to the keyboard hinge to turn your Surface Book into a "creative canvas." By reconnecting it to the keyboard, the Surface Book goes into a pen first mode to give you a truly unique experience.
Ultimate Performance
Whether you are a computer geek or not, nobody wants a sluggish computer. Microsoft has developed a true workhorse. The components within this device give it superiority to almost all portable devices on the market.
For all you nerds out there, the Surface Book comes with your choice of an Intel i5 or i7 processor. Your choice of Intel HD graphics (for the noobs) or an NIVIDIA GeForce graphics (for the gamers). Do not worry about multitasking because you can select from two large sizes of RAM: 8GB or 16GB. And have no fear with storage space because the Surface Book comes with the option of 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of extremely quick solid state storage.
Pricing (unfortunately, it's a bit hefty)
The Microsoft Surface Book starts at $1499 and goes as high as $2699. Pre-orders have already begun and Microsoft has promised to ship them on the release date. That date is October 26, 2015.
It will be interesting to see if it can compete with all of Apple's MacBooks. I have faith it can.
