Out With the Old, in with the New

Well, it's almost September which is a huge month for Apple product users! If you are anything like me, you are ecstatic for the new iOS 10 release! But perhaps you haven't paid attention to what iOS 10 has to offer you. In this article I will go over one of my new favorite parts of iOS 10, the new design for the iMessage app.

iMessage

iMessage has always been a fast and reliable app when it comes to texting, but one thing it has always lacked, is the ability to really connect with the person on the other end of that message. This fall iMessage will get a complete overhaul. Almost everything about the iMessage app is changing. With the new update you will be able to send personalized effects; draw personalized pictures; send GIFs and Stickers through the keyboard; use multiple languages; and have iMessage aid you in selecting emojis, meeting times, and other great things

Personalized effects:

Personalized effects is one of the many features on iOS 10 that really allows you to send emotion in your text message. One of the most prominent personalized effects is the invisible ink. Invisible ink allows you to send a message in secret so that the person who receives the message must wipe away the fog to view the message.

Other effects include:
Loud effect, Slam effect, balloon effect, and many others.

Personalized Pictures:

One of the coolest things about the new iOS updates is that now you can send a personalized picture/drawing. Scenario: It's past curfew and you just remembered you didn't wish your significant other a good nights sleep. You wish you could give them a kiss, but since curfew has taken effect you have no way to kiss them goodnight. Alas! iOS 10 allows you to send a kiss with your picture! Look below for an example:

Other neat things:
You can draw a live photo, send your heart beat, and even send a broken heart for those moments of sadness.

Send GIFs/Stickers:

After many years of the keyboard being solely customizable by Apple, Apple decided to open their keyboard up to developers. Well, what does this mean? This means that apps like GIF Keyboard are now built into the keyboard itself! Another neat option, is sending stickers. You can download different packs of stickers like Disney's Mickey Mouse (below.)

Using Multiple Languages:

If you are someone like me who can speak multiple languages, it can be a pain to have to switch between keyboards. I'm constantly switching between Spanish, English, and French. BUT with the new update, the keyboard will automatically detect what language you are using so that you won't have to even think about changing keyboards. What does this mean? This means that when you are trying to type "Hola! ¿Cómo estás?" your keyboard won't automatically correct it to "Hole! Come eats?"

Contextual Predictions:

What does contextual predictions mean exactly? Well, to put it short, when you are typing out an address, name, or simple word your keyboard is going to search automatically to fill in other useful data. For example, when you type something like "I'm available at" your phone is going to automatically search for free time in your calendar and it will put the data it finds in the suggestion bar. Another cool thing, is that you can be typing out a sentence like "I want to go eat some tacos." The keyboard will automatically suggest that you replace the word "tacos" with an emoji of a taco. If this is still confusing, I am going to give a photo example below.

These were a few examples of the many changes that are going to happen this fall to the iMessage app! I cannot wait to give all these new features a try! All the pictures above were taken from http://www.apple.com/
