Android Turns 10!

It all started in September of 2008 with the HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1), a year following the Apple smartphone. Back in the days where flat, slid-able keyboards before the virtual keyboards reigned supreme, the G1 proved that google was capable of producing smartphones.

This phone proved customization was a key ingredient to successful smartphones. It was the first phone to allow customizable lock screens, something that has become a staple in any phone now. This phone also released with the Android Market (later Google Play). This allowed users to download new apps, unlike the iPhone at the time. The availability of new applications proved to also be a pivotal point for Android to follow suit in the smartphone world. It also set a strong precedent for the versatility of new phone designs and models.

10 years later, Android continues to give Apple a run for it's money. These competitors both revolutionized the smartphone world to lead us here. Without the original smartphone models, where would we be today?
