Software Mogul Hopeful for 2020 Presidential Bid

Many of you will have heard of the ubiquitous anti-virus software known as McAfee Security Suite, but did you know its creator, John McAfee, is running for President?

For those of you that don’t know, McAfee is a subscription based anti-virus software, and a trial edition comes standard on many Windows PCs. Why anyone would need to pay a subscription for anti-virus software when there are multitudes of free offerings, (not to mention Windows Defender ships standard with Windows 8 and higher) is beyond me, however that is another discussion entirely.

John McAfee has announced that he will be seeking the Libertarian Party’s nomination for its 2020 ticket. He has based almost his entire known platform around the idea of promoting Cryptocurrency, and has made statements suggesting that Bitcoin is a more valid as a currency than the US Dollar. While this may seem dubious at best, the argument is not as weak kneed as many would believe. In a recent tweet, McAfee states that at the time of its publication, it costs around $1000 (not including energy costs) to mine a single Bitcoin while a dollar can seemingly be created out of thin air at the whim of the Federal Reserve and Treasury department.  Investopedia says the money supply is only limited by the amount the Federal Reserve can dream up due to electronic currency, like checking accounts. In an interview with Fox News, McAfee stated that he believes taxes are illegal and that he has not filed a tax return in eight years.

While his presidential bid is rather radical, his private life is no less ...interesting. McAfee has a long list of legal infractions including being a person of interest in the murder of his neighbor while he lived in Belize. He petitioned Guatemala for political asylum. He was denied, and was deported to the US. Later he was arrested in Henderson County, Tennessee for driving under the influence and unlawful possession of a firearm while inebriated.

In a question and answer session on Reddit, McAfee had this to say about the anti-virus software that shares his name: “McAfee is one of the worst products on the ...planet.”

John McAfee is seeking a nomination for the highest office in the United States in 2020.
