Problems with Self-Driving Cars

Self-driving cars are becoming more common. But humans still have to pay attention when the cars are in control. If your self-driving car became fully autonomous, you could take a nap, read a book, finish homework, and do multiple things. Self-driving cars may sound like a good idea, but there are problems associated with it.

One problem with self driving cars is the internet connection. Self-driving cars may have strong internet connection in some places, but what happens if there is no signal? The car would not be able to function correctly and locate the other cars, accidents, traffic lights, stop signs or essentials when driving. No internet connection in a self-driving car could cause many fatal accidents.

Another issue is knowing when and where pedestrians are located around the car. Self-driving cars would not be able to see every pedestrian walking nearby. The self-driving car might have a sensor detecting movement nearby, but what if it is driving in a crowded place like New York City? Many people are walking, and that may confuse the self-driving car. The self-driving cars may accidentally run over pedestrians, which would be catastrophic.

Another downside with self-driving cars is if they drive into road construction. When driving, you sometimes have to stop for road construction. The self-driving car may not know when to stop or go according to the road construction worker. The self-driving car may run into a road construction site or a worker.

The last problem is that artificial intelligence(AI) would be taking over the world! I am being a little dramatic, but it is kinda true. Everyone’s cars would be operated by AI, which is a little scary. They would be in charge of people’s lives and destinations. One small defect could cause terrible accidents.

The world is already dangerous and adding self-driving cars make it even more unsafe. Let’s just stick with people driving cars.
