Minecraft Earth

Does anyone else remember when Microsoft debuted this beauty?

There's a lot of cool features in this video, one of which is when the actor plays Minecraft in Augmented Reality. You see him walking around a little house and placing the finishing touches on the chimney by pinching his fingers together. All of the structures in the game were correctly placed on real-world structures - like the coffee table, the books, and the floor. Reality and game were seamlessly melded into one and it blew my mind. However, there was a problem with HoloLens - the price. It wasn't a technology that the average consumer would purchase, especially not just to play Minecraft.

Enter Minecraft Earth -

In the wake of games like Pokemon Go and Wizard's Unite, Minecraft Earth promises to bring the beloved game Minecraft into the Augmented Reality trend. Users will be able to collect resources and build impressive structures with their friends in any location you can travel to in the real world. The game will leverage some of the newest technologies for AR gaming to immerse users into the world of Minecraft through their devices.

Minecraft Earth is scheduled for release sometime in late 2019, and is currently in beta. You can sign up here if you're interested: https://earth.minecraft.net/en-us/sign-up
