Biggest Box Office Bomb
We’ve all seen it happen. Months before a movie comes out,
previews start to be plastered everywhere, we see billboards being put up, and
poster stuck to every surface possible, but when it comes time
for the movie to come out, it absolutely bombs at the box office. Some recent
examples of this are X-men: Dark Phoenix ($150
million loss), Mortal Engines ($174
million loss), and A Wrinkle in Time
($133 million loss). However, this past
weekend a movie opened that is setting records for the worst opening weekend
ever for a movie with a wide release. That movie is Arctic Dogs.
Arctic Dogs is
an animated movie that stars big names such as Jeremy Renner, James Franco, and
Alec Baldwin, and opened in 2844 theaters. Even though it was a family friendly
movie with such a wide release, it only grossed $3.1 million, which puts it as the
worst opening weekend of all time for a movie that released in 2800+ theaters.
This means that on average, each theater only pulled in around $1,019 dollars
for the entire weekend. This fact becomes even grimmer when you put in the
light of the film having around a $60 million budget. So if you think you are
having a bad day, be thankful you aren’t the person who pitched Arctic Dogs.
