Just a game for nerds?

Magic: The Gathering is a tabletop card game where two or more players have decks of 60 cards and take turns summoning creatures and casting spells. While the game is nerdy and complicated, it is also a lot of fun to get a couple friends together and test out different card combinations together.

This game is really complicated, so I am not going to go over all of the ins and outs of the game. I will, however, explain a few reasons that you should start playing.

Reason 1. It is a great way to be social. There are a lot of people who play Magic every weekend at something called "Friday Night Magic." This is an event that local game shops put on where people can learn to play magic and compete in low level tournaments. I have been to a couple and they are a really fun way to meet new people and get competitive.

Reason 2. It is constantly changing. Magic has so much variation and such a wide variety of cards that no two games are exactly the same. Magic is a game that is as much about resource management and strategy as it is about wizards dueling.

Reason 3. It is good mind exercise. Because no two games of Magic are the same, you have to be able to think about what cards are in your hand, how your deck is designed, and what is happening on the field. There have been many games where I am constantly having to think on my feet about how to outsmart my opponent, or discourage them from making certain plays.

Overall, Magic: The Gathering is a fantastic game that is extremely diverse. While it may not be for everyone, it is definitely worth giving a shot.
