But Can it Run Crysis?
In 2007, Crytek developed a game called Crysis. Crysis is about a man in a nanosuit running around an island defeating bad guys and saving the day. Crysis was one of the most visually intensive games of its time. Built off of CryEngine, Crysis was able to push the boundaries of what was graphically possible for the time. Because the CryEngine was so hardware intense, Crysis could not even be run on the highest possible settings with the most top of the line hardware of 2007. Since pushing the game to its limits was not possible, the online joke of "But can it run crysis?" was born.
This phrase is most commonly used as a joke in PC building circles when referring to someone's new computer build. While most modern gaming computers can run the original Crysis at maxed settings, Crytek is creating a new challenge for PC enthusiests. They releasing Crysis remastered on September 18th, 2020, which will include a graphical setting "Can it run Crysis" in which every possible setting will be turned up as high as the engine will allow. The demos found at Crysis.com are very evident that to even think about running this game at high settings will require hardware that is on line with Nvidia's brand new 30 series of GPUs or even hardware that doesn't exist yet. It is interesting to think that just 13 years ago, Crytek made a game that pushed the computing world to its limits and they are back at it again.
