Google Glass Now Available for Prescription Lenses

The focus on one of the coolest and most controversial products to enter the market just got a lot clearer. Recently, Google announced that its interactive Google Glass device will now be available with prescription lenses. Here is the cost breakdown for the device that is currently only available through the Explorer Program:

Prescription Frames:          $225
Explorer Program Fee:      $1,500
Tinted Shades:                   $150

Prescription lenses are the most-requested feature improvement within the Explorer Program community. Google has also announced that it is partnering with the US eye care insurer VSP to lower costs for the prescription frames.

Google Glass is the most exciting wearable piece of technology being developed. From having the ability to record whatever you see, to asking Google for directions that will be displayed in front of you, and to asking Google for live language translations, the possibilities of positively applying Google Glass to everyday life are great. However, the negative possibilities also exist, and have led organizations in the movie theater industry to not allow Google Glass to be used while watching a movie for fear of recording copyrighted material. Concerns also exist in the realm of driving with Google Glass, as some authorities have expressed concern about distractions while driving.

With Google announcing that widespread availability later this year for Google Glass, these concerns will only grow. Expect to see plenty of controversy, but also expect to see some really incredible videos like this!
