Microsoft Surface Duo: The New Windows Phone

After being out of the phone market for the past two years, Microsoft unveiled the Surface Duo alongside the rest of the new Surface lineup. Employing a unique design reminiscent of a Nintendo DS turned on its side, its design stands out amongst its competitors in the dual-screen smartphone market. Further, Microsoft acknowledges their past failures with the Windows Phone and their own mobile operating system with this device that plans to run Android. This decision makes the device a much more attractive option to the average consumer as it runs an Operating System that is known to work and be supported unlike the much maligned Windows Phone OS releases.
The Surface Duo acts as an alternative to the technology we've seen been unveiled in devices like the Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X. However, unlike the devices in this same category, the Surface Duo has two separate screens separated by a hinge. This prevents issues with the screen bending and a crease forming in it. This device acts as the little sibling to the also announced Surface Neo, their venture into the dual screen tablet/laptop market. It is currently unclear which product Microsoft seems to be focusing on. However, I am excited to see the potential this device has to make a dent in the smartphone market.
